According to a recent ruling by a UK judge, stealing virtual gold pieces in the game Old School RuneScape is considered theft. The case involves a former employee of the game’s developer, Jagex, who allegedly hacked 68 player accounts and sold hundreds of billions of gold pieces for Bitcoin. The judge determined that even though the virtual gold may not have real-world value, it can still be considered property that can be stolen. This is not the first time a Jagex employee has been involved in such misconduct. In a previous incident, an employee was fired for stealing in-game gold, but later received damages for unfair dismissal.
